When former Beatle and music legend Paul McCartney announced he was working with Kanye West, fans of both artists were initially shocked and apprehensive about the collaboration. Turns out they weren't the only ones -- in a recent interview, McCartney revealed that Oprah herself tried to get McCartney to stay away from Kanye.
Speaking with the BBC, McCartney said that Oprah tried to talk him out of working with West. According to McCartney, Oprah objected to West's language, particularly his frequent use of the N-word, which the former talk show host finds extremely offensive. "People like Oprah, who's a little conservative about that stuff, said "You shouldn't do it, even black people shouldn't use that word," McCartney said. In the end though, despite the warnings, McCartney decided to continue with the collaboration. "He's talking about an urban generation that uses the word in a different way," McCartney said in defense of West. "It's the context. So I was actually pleased with it."
While Kanye has a reputation for being a perfectionist, McCartney said he enjoyed working with him. "I love Kanye, people say he's eccentric, which you would have to agree with, but he is a monster." McCartney said, adding "He is a crazy guy who comes up with great stuff."
Ignoring Oprah's advice seems to have paid off for both Kanye and McCartney, as the tracks "All Day" and "FourFiveSeconds," which also featured Rihanna, were both released to general critical acclaim and strong sales.
