Lil Yachty and Gucci Mane are Bridging the Gap with “Bentley Coupe”

Attempting to fill the chasm between old and young Hip-hop, the older “Lemonade” rapper joins forces with Lil Boat, and the result is his latest hard-hitting single, “Bentley Coupe”, produced by BYOU$ productions.

“Watch what you say now, Gucci don't play now/ EA my playground, I love how the K sound/ Me and Lil Yachty in Nautica/ Polar bear, Gucci, Antarctica/ 20 chains on like Mardi Grass/ Woke up this morning, bought another car,” samples hooks from Guwop.

The song sees Gucci Mane taking stand alongside the younger, “lightning rod” rapper. And although mutual respect between the two is strongly implied, Yachty dishes out his razor-sharp rhymes against his critics: “They mad cause n—gas is no longer into you/ D—n, your money short like an interlude/ Ain't no telling what I'm finna do.”

While the younger artist shoots explicit words against his haters, Gucci Mane attests that “he's forcing himself to understand the new style because it's popular,” as mentioned in an XXL discussion pertaining to rap's newer generation.

“There's a different sound to some of the stuff that's going on,” explained Guwop, “I'm forcing myself myself to like it because, it's different. It's not what I grew up listening to. It's not the stuff I would generally play in my car, but if everybody else like it, who am I to say they're stupid or that they're wrong?”

Further on, Guwop applauded the younger class for their impressive marketing skills, and explained an interesting idea: “He is a fan of their movement, but not their music.” Although that sounds rather condescending, but perhaps the Mane unconsciously spoke the formula to solving Hip-hop's generational divide—just a thought, right?
