The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame rolled out the list of nominees for its 2023 class on Wednesday (February 1). Among this year's roster are A Tribe Called Quest and Missy Elliott, the latter in her first year of eligibility. Tribe was nominated once in 2022.
The other nominees are Sheryl Crow, Kate Bush, The White Stripes, Warren Zevon, The Spinners, Iron Maiden, Soundgarden, Willie Nelson, Joy Division/New Order, George Michael, Cyndi Lauper and Rage Against The Machine.
To be eligible, an artist or band must have released their first commercial recording at least 25 years prior to the year of nomination.
“This remarkable list of nominees reflects the diverse artists and music that the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame honors and celebrates,” said John Sykes, chairman of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation. “These artists have created their own sounds that have impacted generations and influenced countless others that have followed in their footsteps.”
Inductees will be announced in May, and the 2023 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony will take place this fall either in Los Angeles or at the Rock Hall's home in Cleveland.
